How to make a Pointing Mortar Mix

Search on the internet for "builders merchants near me".

Purchase:

  • Building Sand
  • Lime Hydrate
  • Cement
  • Plasterciser

The ideal pointing mortar mix ratio is:

  • 6 parts sand
  • 1 part lime
  • 1 part cement

For very small mixes - dispense teaspoon measured amounts into a polystyrene cup then add water and use a teaspoon to mix. Once mixed - add water or dry material as needed to gain desired consistency. Make a drier mix for a cleaner finish to minimise cement staining on the target area.

Tips: buy the 5kg bags of cement + use washing up liquid instead of plasterciser.

Tips: when mixing in a bucket add the water and plasterciser/washing-liquid first.
